Bass Lucas Singer has been a member of the Cologne Opera ensemble for many years, where he has built an extensive repertoire over recent seasons. His roles there have included Sarastro in "Die Zauberflöte", the Hermit in "Der Freischütz", Publio in "La clemenza di Tito", Zuniga in "Carmen", Biterolf in "Tannhäuser", Masetto in "Don Giovanni", Timur in "Turandot", Pistola in "Falstaff", and Death / Loudspeaker in Viktor Ullmann’s "Der Kaiser von Atlantis". He has also appeared in Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s "Die Soldaten", Benjamin Britten’s "Peter Grimes", Orff’s "Die Kluge", and Beethoven’s "Fidelio".

Lucas Singer began his career in the International Opera Studio of Cologne Opera and joined the permanent ensemble in the 14/15 season.

In recent years, he has made successful debuts at Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Theater Kiel, Landestheater Coburg, Theater Basel, and Komische Oper Berlin.

Alongside his stage career, Lucas Singer maintains an active concert schedule, documented by recordings including J. S. Bach’s Mass in B minor on the Spektral label and sacred works by Otto Nicolai released by Carus. His repertoire ranges from Renaissance vocal music to the great Romantic oratorios. Concert tours and guest performances have taken the bass to the United States and Central America. He is also a passionate interpreter of the art song repertoire and regularly presents recital programmes dedicated to this genre.

At Cologne Opera, he has performed roles including Sarastro in Mozart’s "Die Zauberflöte", Wagner in Gounod’s "Faust", the double role of Eagle / Voice of Zeus in Braunfels’ "Die Vögel", Fafner in "Das Rheingold für Jung und Alt", Zuniga in "Carmen", the Farmer in "Die Kluge", Osmin in "Die Entführung aus dem Serail", Editor Berlioz / Archibald Archibaldovich in York Höller’s "Der Meister und Margarita", and Panthée in "Les Troyens".

Further roles in Cologne include Daland in "Der fliegende Holländer", Don Alfonso in "Così fan tutte", Swallow in "Peter Grimes", Angelotti in "Tosca", Tom in "Un ballo in maschera", Benoit / Alcindoro in "La Bohème", Orestes’ Guardian in "Elektra", the High Priest of Baal in "Nabucco", Zuniga in "Carmen", the bass roles in the world premiere of "Die letzten Tage der Menschheit", Ernst in the children's opera "Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten", and Sarastro in "Die Zauberflöte für Jung und Alt".

He has appeared as Swallow in "Peter Grimes" at Oper Leipzig, as the Bailiff in "Werther" at Konzerthaus Dortmund, and as Daland in the children's opera "Der fliegende Holländer" at the 2024 Bayreuth Festival. As the Colonel in Zimmermann’s "Die Soldaten", he appeared in Calixto Bieito’s production at the Cologne Philharmonie, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, and the Philharmonie de Paris. He also appeared as Timur in "Turandot" at Saarländisches Staatstheater.

During the 25/26 season, he performed Fafner in "Das Rheingold", Bartolo in "Le nozze di Figaro", Timur in "Turandot", and Maeldictus Made in Elisabeth Naske’s children's opera "Der Wunschpunsch". He also performed with the Gürzenich Orchestra Chamber Orchestra in a programme of Baroque composers.

In the 26/27 season, he will appear as the Police Commissioner / Notary in Richard Strauss’ "Der Rosenkavalier", the opening production marking Cologne Opera’s return to Offenbachplatz. He will also perform Crespel in Stefan Herheim’s production of Jacques Offenbach’s "Les Contes d’Hoffmann", Fafner in Richard Wagner’s "Siegfried", part of Paul-Georg Dittrich’s new Cologne Ring cycle, and Micha in "The Bartered Bride", directed by Laurent Pelly in a co-production with Teatro Real, Opéra national de Lyon, and Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie. In addition, he will sing Sarastro in Michael Hampe’s fairy-tale production of Mozart’s "Die Zauberflöte", Seneca in Ted Huffman’s acclaimed production of Monteverdi’s "L’incoronazione di Poppea", and Sparafucile in Verdi’s "Rigoletto".
