Rustam Samedov

Rustam Samedov began his musical training at the age of six, studying piano and singing at the choir school of the State Academic Chapel in St. Petersburg. He went on to study at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, first in choral conducting with Jörg-Peter Weigle, then in orchestral conducting with Hans-Dieter Baum.

While still a student, Rustam Samedov gained extensive experience as a conductor and choir director, working with various choirs and orchestras such as the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, the Brandenburger Symphoniker, and the chamber choir „ad libitum”.

After completing his studies, he was engaged on several occasions to conduct operas, operettas, and symphony concerts and supervised rehearsals as a study director and choir director, including with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Choir, and the choir of the State Opera at the Schillertheater.

Rustam Samedov also worked as musical director and choir director at the Rheinsberg Music Academy Opera, which awarded him the „Advancement Award for Exceptional Musical Achievement”.

From 2009 to 2013, he was principal guest conductor of the Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie and, from January 2014, choir director at the Theater Vorpommern. In 2015, he took on several rehearsals for the Rundfunkchor Berlin. From 2016 to 2018, he was engaged as choir director at the Halle Opera.

At the beginning of the 2018-19 season, he took on the role of choir director at the Cologne Opera. On November 30, 2020, the Cologne Opera Choir received the OPER! AWARDS.

In the 2022-23 season, Samedov conducted the choir rehearsals for the new production of “Hamlet” at the Bavarian State Opera. He also conducted several rehearsals with the Berlin Radio Choir and the WDR Radio Choir.
