The young Austrian baritone Tobias Lusser joins the International Opera Studio of Cologne Opera as a member from the 26/27 season. He will appear there, among other roles, as Marullo in Rigoletto, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), and Freddy Eynsford-Hill in My Fair Lady.

During the 24/25 season, he appeared with Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in Antwerp and Ghent in operas by M. Ravel, L. Nono and A. Berg. He also made a guest appearance as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at Saarland State Theatre.

In the 23/24 season, he appeared as a guest artist at Karlsruhe State Theatre (Papageno) and Kammeroper München (Count Almaviva). In October 2022, he made his professional operatic debut at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte (W. A. Mozart).

As a sought-after concert soloist, he has performed at the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Koningin Elisabethzaal in Antwerp, Muziekcentrum De Bijloke in Ghent and the Festspielhaus St. Pölten. He has collaborated with the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Symfonisch Orkest Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra and the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra. His concert repertoire includes major works for baritone such as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Carmina Burana (C. Orff), Ein deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem, J. Brahms), Messa di Gloria (G. Puccini) and Erlkönigs Tochter (N. Gade).

The art song repertoire holds a special place in his artistic work. He has appeared at the Schubertiada Vilabertran and the Hidalgo Festival Munich. His recital repertoire includes An die ferne Geliebte (L. v. Beethoven), Dichterliebe, op. 48 (R. Schumann), Die schöne Magelone, op. 33, and the Italienisches Liederbuch (H. Wolf). During the 25/26 season, Tobias Lusser was awarded a scholarship to participate in the talent development programme Lied the Future, an initiative of the Franz Schubert Association supported by the Banc Sabadell Foundation and the Ferrer-Salat Foundation.

He is a prizewinner of the International Carl Orff Singing Competition, Elīna Garanča’s Zukunftsstimmen competition, the Fritz Wunderlich Förderpreis awarded by the Fritz Wunderlich Music Society Kusel, and the national competition Prima la Musica in the Solo Voice category.

Since 2023, he has been a scholarship holder of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Munich and of the Richard Wagner Association Munich.

Since 2020, he has been studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich with Prof. Lars Woldt and studying song interpretation with Tobias Truniger. He has also received important artistic inspiration through masterclasses with Petra Lang, Olaf Bär, Rudolf Piernay and Helmut Deutsch.

He gained his first musical experience at the age of five, beginning with the cello and later the piano. He also studied organ at the Conservatory of Church Music in St. Pölten, where he received his first vocal training.
