Christoph Seidl

The Austrian bass Christoph Seidl has been a member of the ensemble at the Cologne Opera since the beginning of season 2022.23, where he has appeared as Osmin in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail,” Don Estoban in “Der Zwerg,” Alidoro in “La Cenerentola,” Seneca in “L'incoronazione di Poppea,” the One-Armed Man in “Die Frau ohne Schatten,” Sarastro in “Die Zauberflöte,” Sacristan in “Tosca,” Samuel in “Un ballo in maschera,” Nourabad in “Die Perlenfischer,” Commendatore in “Don Giovanni,” Colline in “La Bohème,” Zuniga in “Carmen,” High Priest of Baal in “Nabucco,” and an old servant in “Elektra.” He has also sung in several children's operas and in Saariaho's “La passion de Simone.”

In season 2025.26, he will once again be heard as Sarastro in “Die Zauberflöte” and Alidoro in “La Cenerentola,” as well as Antonio in “Le nozze di Figaro,” Fasolt in “Rheingold,” and Timur in “Turandot.” 

From 2020 to 2022, Christoph Seidl was a member of the ensemble at the Aalto Theater Essen, where he sang roles such as Count Waldner in "Arabella", prison warden Frank in "Die Fledermaus", and the Eremit in "Der Freischütz".

He sang in a concert performance of "Rheingold" with Kent Nagano and Concerto Köln at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. 

From 2016 to 2020, he was a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, where he appeared on stage as Sarastro in "Die Zauberflöte, Commendatore in "Don Giovanni", Baculus in "Der Wildschütz", Alidoro in "La Cenerentola", and Colline in "La Bohème", among others. He also made guest appearances as Baculus at the Kassel Opera House and appeared at the Theater an der Wien as Hans Bast in Carl Maria von Weber's “Peter Schmoll und seine Nachbarn.” At the “Wagner-Stimmen” competition in fall 2018, he was awarded second prize by the high-ranking jury.

From 2014 to 2016, the young bass singer was a member of the Junges Ensemble at the Theater an der Wien, where he performed as Gremin in "Eugene Onegin" at the Vienna Chamber Opera and took on many larger and smaller roles at the main theater. During this time, he also made a name for himself as a lieder and concert singer, including in the field of church music, with a large repertoire ranging from Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert to modern composers. Concert tours took him to Brussels (Palais des Beaux Arts “Bozar”), Moscow (Bolshoi), and New York (Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center NYC), among other places. As a member of the Young Singers Project 2013, Christoph Seidl made his debut as Osmin in “The Abduction from the Seraglio” in a version for children at the Salzburg Festival. He also appeared as a deputato in “Don Carlo” at the Großes Festspielhaus. In the same year, his debut in the new production of Shostakovich's “Lady Macbeth von Mzensk” at the Zurich Opera House led to his engagement at the International Opera Studio of this house for season 2013.14. Christoph Seidl has already worked with conductors such as Bertrand de Billy, Theodor Currentzis, Hans Graf, Thomas Hengelbrock, René Jacobs, Fabio Luisi, Antonio Pappano, and Sebastian Weigle, as well as directors such as Robert Carsen, Herbert Föttinger, Claus Guth, Tatjana Gürbaca, Andreas Homoki, Peter Stein, and Michael Sturminger. 

The young bass completed his studies under Ralf Döring, Robert Holl, and Florian Bösch at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, took master classes under Angelika Kirchschlager, Thomas Hampson, and Helmut Deutsch, and was a scholarship recipient of the Richard Wagner Association in 2011.
