Barrie Kosky
Vita
Barrie Kosky stammt aus Melbourne, wo er Klavier und Musikgeschichte studierte. 1996 arbeitete er als Künstlerischer Direktor des Adelaide Festival of the Arts. Von 2001 bis 2005 war er Co-Direktor am Schauspielhaus Wien. Er inszenierte u. a. an der Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, der Oper Frankfurt, der Wiener Staatsoper, der Opéra National de Lyon, De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, Den Norske Opera in Oslo, dem Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, dem Teatro Real de Madrid, der San Francisco Opera, der Los Angeles Opera, dem Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires sowie bei den Festspielen in Salzburg, Bayreuth, Glyndebourne und Aix-en-Provence.
Von 2012 bis 2022 war er Intendant und Chefregisseur der Komischen Oper Berlin, wo er u. a. „Die Zauberflöte“, „Rusalka“, „Iphigenie auf Tauris“, „Kiss me, Kate“, „Rigoletto“, „West Side Story“, „Les Contes d’Hoffmann“, „Eugen Onegin“ und „Sweeney Todd“ inszenierte. Seit 2022 ist er dort Hausregisseur.
Bei den International Opera Award wurde er 2014 und 2023 als Regisseur des Jahres ausgezeichnet. 2024 erhielt er das Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande. 2024-25 inszenierte er u. a. „Manon Lescaut“ an der Oper Zürich und „Die Banditen“ an der Opéra national de Paris.
2014-2015 inszenierte er Händels Oratorium „Saul“ für das Glyndebourne Festival, das in der Spielzeit 2025-26 an der Oper Köln spielen wird.
