StageVibes: Der Rosenkavalier – When Status Protects

What happens when power meets desire? Who gets to decide for whom – and what happens when social roles begin to shift?

In the first episode of our second season, we dive into Richard Strauss’s DER ROSENKAVALIER – an opera about love, status, dependence and the question of who really calls the shots. We talk about power and its abuse, social roles, and why so much of what unfolds on the opera stage feels strikingly close to our lives today.

We also explore an unusual perspective on DER ROSENKAVALIER: What happens when film meets opera? Cameras, projections and cinematic imagery change how we see the characters and their story. Marie-Ève Signeyrole’s production plays with the boundaries between film and reality, performance and real life.

And then there is the opera house itself: After years of renovation, DER ROSENKAVALIER opens the programme at Offenbachplatz. We look at how the architecture, spaces and stage technology become part of the production – and what the reopened house has to say for itself.
