With his musical flair, which inspires musicians and audiences alike, Andrés Orozco-Estrada has established himself in recent years as one of the leading conductors on the international stage.

At the beginning of the 2026/27 season, Andrés Orozco-Estrada takes up his position as Chief Conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. His tenure in Stockholm begins with a free open-air concert and the opening concert of the Baltic Sea Festival, where he will conduct works by Anders Hillborg, Alma Mahler, Molly Kien and Igor Stravinsky – a programme that clearly reflects Orozco-Estrada’s artistic vision for the orchestra: he aims to create programmes that move and inspire. “It is very important to me to make music accessible to everyone,” says Orozco-Estrada. “Our audience, whether in the concert hall or listening on the radio, is at the heart of everything we do. With inspiration, energy and music that touches the soul, we want to give something back.”

In Cologne, where Orozco-Estrada has been General Music Director and Gürzenich-Kapellmeister since autumn 2025, the 2026/27 season will be marked by the reopening of the opera house. His first premiere there will be Richard Strauss’s “Der Rosenkavalier”. As cultural ambassadors for the City of Cologne, Orozco-Estrada and the Gürzenich Orchestra will travel to Colombia in February; the tour programme includes Beethoven’s “Fidelio” and Fifth Symphony.

Beyond Cologne and Stockholm, Andrés Orozco-Estrada’s season remains equally varied. In February and March, he will accompany his Colombian youth orchestra, the Filarmónica Joven de Colombia, on a major European tour with concerts in Vienna, Paris, Zurich, Madrid and Hamburg, among other cities, with María Dueñas as soloist. Shortly afterwards, he will conduct the world premiere of Max Richter’s Cello Concerto with the Orchestre de Paris and Gautier Capuçon at the Philharmonie de Paris. He will then appear with the orchestra and Richter’s work in Switzerland. At the end of the season, he will conduct “La Bohème” at Zurich Opera. Further engagements will take him to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

Orozco-Estrada was Chief Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI (2023–2026), Music Director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra (2014–2022), Chief Conductor of the hr-Sinfonieorchester (2014–2021) and Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra (2020–2022).

He has appeared as a guest at renowned opera houses including the Vienna State Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Semperoper Dresden and La Scala in Milan, and has worked with orchestras including the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, London Philharmonic Orchestra, New York Philharmonic and Boston Symphony Orchestra, as well as the NHK Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in Asia.

Born in Medellín, Colombia, Orozco-Estrada began taking violin lessons as a teenager before turning to conducting at the age of 15. In 1997, he moved to Vienna to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he has held a professorship in orchestral conducting since 2022.
