Johanna Thomsen
Vita
Born in Berlin, mezzo-soprano Johanna Thomsen has been a member of the International Opera Studio at Cologne Opera since the 24/25 season, where she has performed as the Cat in “The Bremen Town Musicians,” Third Lady in “Die Zauberflöte für Jung und Alt”, Mercédès in “Carmen,” Sammy in “Superheldennormalos,” and Mezzo A in “Die letzten Tage der Menschheit.”
At the same time, she is studying for her master's degree with Prof. Manuela Uhl at the Lübeck University of Music.
She has completed masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Edda Moser, and Christoph Prégardien to complement her training. Johanna Thomsen is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association Hamburg and winner of the Fritz Wunderlich Sponsorship Award 2024.
In addition to opera, she enjoys performing a varied repertoire of songs and concert pieces, including the alto parts in J. S. Bach's Mass in B minor and St. Matthew Passion, Gustav Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, and Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire.
In the 25/26 season, she will sing the Third Lady in “Die Zauberflöte,” Floßhilde in “Das Rheingold,” Hänsel in “Hänsel und Gretel,” Tisbe in “La Cenerentola,” Moritz in “Max und Moritz,” Roßweiße in “Die Walküre,” and Isaura in “Tancredi.”
