Johanna Thomsen

Born in Berlin, mezzo-soprano Johanna Thomsen has been a member of the International Opera Studio at Cologne Opera since season 2024.25, where she has performed as the Cat ("Bremer Stadtmusikanten"), Third Lady ("Zauberflöte für Jung und Alt"), Mercédès ("Carmen"), Sammy ("Superheldennormalos"), and Mezzo A ("Die letzten Tage der Menschheit"). 

At the same time, she is studying for her master's degree under Prof. Manuela Uhl at the Lübeck University of Music.

Masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Edda Moser, and Christoph Prégardien complement her training. She is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association Hamburg and winner of the Fritz Wunderlich Sponsorship Award 2024.

In addition to opera, she enjoys performing a varied repertoire of lieder and concert pieces, including the alto parts in J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor and Matthäus-Passion, Gustav Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, and Arnold Schoenberg's "Pierrot Lunaire". 

In season 2025.26, she will sing the Third Lady ("Die Zauberflöte"), Floßhilde ("Das Rheingold"), Hänsel ("Hänsel und Gretel"), Tisbe ("La Cenerentola"), Moritz ("Max and Moritz"), Roßweiße ("Die Walküre"), and Isaura ("Tancredi").
