SYNOPSIS
Welcome to the insect kingdom! A world much smaller than ours, but all the more diverse, colourful and fascinating. Marla, a little mayfly that has just hatched, wants to get to know the world and find out what other insects there are. She sets off on a journey that lasts only one day. She meets a dazzling dragonfly, a poetic rhinoceros beetle and a tiny tardigrade that is more than a hundred years old. She learns how important self-confidence is from an insect that does not yet have a name because it has not yet been discovered. In the evening, Marla returns to find that her short life has already come to an end – but it was a life full of exciting moments and special encounters.
Ralf Gscheidle wrote the cheerful and sensitive music for this little insect opera, which has been travelling to nurseries, kindergartens and also institutions for senior citizens since 2022. Ute Lindenbeck designed the fantastic-looking costumes for the production by Brigitta Gillessen, who also wrote the libretto.
Our workshop project called "Unisono" brings children and senior citizens together to exchange musical and playful ideas based on "Marla the Mayfly". You can find more information on this under the heading OPER.STADT.SCHULE.
