David Howes

Bass-baritone David Howes was born in Limerick, Ireland, where he studied singing with Olive Cowpar. He then graduated from the Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin with a bachelor’s degree in music. David Howes is currently studying singing with Robert Dean and has been a member of the International Opera Studio at Oper Köln since the 2021.22 season. In the 2020.21 season he was also a member of Irish National Opera's ABL Aviation Opera Studio, as well as taking part in Wexford Festival Opera's Wexford Factory and Northern Ireland Opera's Young Artist Programme.

He recently performed the roles of Priest and Badger in Janáček's "The Cunning Little Vixen" in Longborough Festival Opera's Emerging Artist Programme. His operatic repertoire includes Count Ceprano in "Rigoletto" (Opera Theatre Company, Ireland), Buff in “Der Schauspieldirektor" (Irish National Opera), the title role in Hans Krása's "Brundibár" (Killaloe Chamber Music Festival, Ireland), Prince Yamadori in “Madama Butterfly" and Marquis d'Obigny in "La Traviata" (Lyric Opera, Ireland), Figaro in "Le nozze di Figaro" (Zerere Arts Festival, Portugal), Sciarrone in "Tosca" (Wexford Festival Opera, Ireland), Father Trulove in "The Rake's Progress" and Quince in "A Midsummer Night's Dream". He also appeared in Robert Coleman's short opera “The Colour Green”, commissioned by Irish National Opera for their 20 Shots of Opera project.

In the 2021.22 season he can be heard at Oper Köln as Der Kerkermeister in Carl Orff's "Die Kluge", Gamekeeper in "Rusalka", Schriftsteller Deninskin in York Höller's "Der Meister und Margarita", Moralès in "Carmen" and as Fiorillo in "Il barbiere di Siviglia".
