Alessandro Quarta, musical director and founder of the renowned vocal and instrumental ensemble Concerto Romano, is dedicated to the rediscovery of Roman and Italian music from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. He regularly leads his ensemble on concert tours throughout Europe and the United States, receiving excellent reviews and awards for their recordings, including the 2015 Prix Caecilia for the CD Sacred Music for the Poor and the 2016 Diapason d’or for La sete di Christo by Bernardo Pasquini.

His artistic collaborations include work with the Ensemble Emelthée in Lyon, the Boston Early Music Festival Ensemble, Ensemble Blue Heron in Boston, and the Consortium of the Carissimi Ensemble in Minneapolis for the modern premiere of Bernardo Pasquini’s opera Tirinto.

His guest conducting engagements have recently taken him to the Orchestra barocca nazionale dei Conservatori, Theater Kiel, the Teatro Comunale Claudio Abbado di Ferrara, and the Reate Festival, where he has already conducted performances of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and Melani’s L’empio Punito.

He regularly teaches at the University of Music and Dance Cologne, the University of the Arts Bremen, and the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan, among others. Since 2019, he has been a lecturer at the Conservatorio E. F. Dall’Abaco in Verona. Since 2007, he has taught at the Fondazione Italiana per la Musica Antica, and since 2018 he has served as artistic director of the international FIMA Festival for Early Music in Urbino.

In the 2026/27 season at Oper Köln, he will conduct Ted Huffman’s highly acclaimed production of Claudio Monteverdi’s The Coronation of Poppea.
