Katharina Schmitt

Vita

Katharina Schmitt studied theatre directing at the Prague Academy of Arts and works as a director and author for opera, radio plays and theatre. Her award-winning works deal with relationships between language, bodies and violence and are characterised by hybrid forms. One focus of her practice is the joint development of operas and music theatre projects with contemporary composers. In recent years, her work has taken her to the Opera of the National Theatre Prague, the Munich Biennale for Music Theatre, the HKW Berlin, Gare du Nord in Basel, the Festival Musica Strasbourg and the Studio Hrdinu in Prague, among others. ‘INES’ is Katharina Schmitt's second collaboration with the composer Ondrej Adámek, following the chamber opera ‘Alles klappt’, which premiered at the Munich Biennale in 2018.
