Judith Thielsen

Vita

Born in northern Germany, the mezzo-soprano completed her vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. Her busy schedule as a concert and lieder singer takes Judith Thielsen all over Germany. She has given guest performances at the Kieler Schloss, the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Gasteig in Munich and at the "Voices" festival. She has given guest performances in Kiel and Berlin, among other places, and was a member of the International Opera Studio of Oper Köln from 2014 to 2016, and a permanent member of the ensemble from 2017 to 2023. Here she was seen as Saint Margaret in Braunfels' "Jeanne d'Arc – Szenen aus dem Leben der Heiligen Johanna", in Ravel's "L'enfant et les sortilèges" and in Schönberg's "Pierrot lunaire". She performed the title role in Benjamin Britten's "The Rape of Lucretia". She also appeared as Charlotte in "Die Soldaten", Annio in "La clemenza di Tito", Frau Försterin in "Das schlaue Füchslein", Balkis in the German premiere of Jacques Offenbach's "Barkouf ou un chien au pouvoir", Marthe in the new production of Gounod's "Faust", Angel 2 / Marie in George Benjamin's "Written on Skin", 3rd Lady in "Die Zauberflöte", Gertrud in Humperdinck's "Hänsel und Gretel", Frau Stjopa / Sofja Pawlowna in York Höller's "Der Meister und Margarita", in several roles in "Der Ring des Nibelungen für Jung und Alt" as well as in the Jacques Offenbach evening "Je suis Jacques".

In the 2018 annual critics' poll of the magazine "Opernwelt" she received a nomination as 'Most Remarkable Young Artist'. She made her debut at the Bregenz Festival in summer 2019 as Larina in "Eugene Onegin".

In the 2023.24 season, she appears at Oper Köln as Charlotte in “Die Soldaten".
