Emily Hindrichs

Vita

Emily Hindrichs, a native of New Orleans, USA, studied at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Exeter and the New England Conservatory. She then became a member of Seattle Opera's Young Artist Programme. She has won numerous competitions, including the Sullivan Foundation Award and the Washington International Competition, as well as the Les Azuriales Opera Competition in France. As a member of the ensemble at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the soprano interpreted, among other rolle, the Queen of the Night in “Die Zauberflöte", Oscar in "Un ballo in maschera", Le Feu in "L'enfant et les sortilèges" and the title role in Stravinsky's "Le Rossignol". Debuts as Micaëla in "Carmen", Anne Trulove in "The Rake's Progress" and Konstanze in "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" have taken her to the Opéra Théâtre de Saint-Étienne and the Connecticut Early Music Festival, among others. In 2017, she also made guest appearances in Ravel's "L'enfant et les sortilèges" at the Komische Oper Berlin, at the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen and at numerous other stages as the much sought-after Queen of the Night. In autumn 2019, she enjoyed particular success at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar as Elsa in Paul Dessau's "Lancelot". With the 2015.16 season, she moved from the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe to the ensemble of Oper Köln, where she has so far appeared as Teresa ("Benvenuto Cellini"), Musetta ("La Bohème"), Adela (world premiere of Liza Lim's "Tree of Codes"), 1st Flower Girl ("Parsifal"), Nannetta ("Falstaff"), in several roles in the German premiere of Johannes Maria Staud's "Die Antilope", as Susanna ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Elisetta in Cimarosa's "Il matrimonio segreto", Wanda in Offenbach's "La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein", First Elf in "Rusalka", Rose Maurrant in Kurt Weill's "Street Scene", the Queen of the Night in “Die Zauberflöte", Marguerite in Gounod's "Faust", and as Clémence in Kaija Saariaho's "L'amour de loin". A particular highlight of her work at Oper Köln was her interpretation of Marie in Bernd Alois Zimmermann's "Die Soldaten” in 2018.

In the 2022.23 season, Emily Hindrichs can be seen as Anna in "Miranda", Donna Clara in "Der Zwerg", Musetta in "La Bohème", and May in the world premiere of Arnaud Petit's "La Bête dans la jungle".
