Belgian bass Tijl Faveyts first gained international attention at the age of 26 when he appeared as Sarastro in "Die Zauberflöte" at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Since then, he has established himself on the world’s leading opera stages and has most recently appeared as Gurnemanz in "Parsifal" at the Wagner Days Budapest, Hunding in "Die Walküre" at Cologne Opera, and Arkel in "Pelléas et Mélisande" at Bergen National Opera.

Tijl Faveyts was a member of the ensembles of Theater St. Gallen, Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, and Komische Oper Berlin, where he built up an extensive and varied repertoire. His roles there included Daland in "Der fliegende Holländer", King Marke in "Tristan und Isolde", Hermann in "Tannhäuser", Osmin in "Die Entführung aus dem Serail", Don Basilio in "Il barbiere di Siviglia", Sparafucile in "Rigoletto", Ramfis in "Aida", Oroveso in "Norma", Hunding in "Die Walküre", the Doctor in "Wozzeck", Ferrando in "Il trovatore", Gremin in "Eugene Onegin", and Comte des Grieux in "Manon".

From the 26/27 season onwards, he will be a member of the Cologne Opera ensemble.

Guest engagements have taken him to many of the world's leading opera houses and festivals, including the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Stuttgart State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Leipzig, the Bayreuth Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Theater Bonn, Vlaamse Opera, La Monnaie in Brussels, Opéra de Lille, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, the Vienna Festival, Theater an der Wien, ABAO Bilbao, Teatro Cervantes Málaga, Dutch National Opera Amsterdam, Teatro Comunale di Modena and Reggio Emilia, Lincoln Center New York, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and the Israeli Opera Tel Aviv.

He has collaborated with renowned conductors including Giacomo Sagripanti, Kazushi Ono, Fabio Luisi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Christian Thielemann, Carlo Rizzi, Kent Nagano, Daniel Harding, Antonino Fogliani, Frank Beermann, Marc Albrecht, Daniele Gatti, Axel Kober, Alain Altinoglu, and Pablo Heras-Casado, as well as with distinguished directors such as Mariame Clément, Barrie Kosky, Frank Castorf, Tatjana Gürbaca, Vincent Boussard, and Stefan Herheim.

Faveyts is also a sought-after concert performer, appearing regularly at major venues including Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, the Cologne and Berlin Philharmonies, Concertgebouw Bruges, and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. His concert repertoire ranges from Bach’s major oratorios to works by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn, as well as compositions from the twentieth century.

His upcoming engagements include the Commendatore in "Don Giovanni" at Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, Kezal in "The Bartered Bride" and Vodnik in "Rusalka" at Cologne Opera, as well as appearances at the Bayreuth Festival.
