Fang Cai begann ihr Studium 2013 bei Sopranistin Prof. Xiuying Li am Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Anschließend wurde sie an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln aufgenommen, an der sie ab 2019 ihr Gesangsstudium bei Prof. Mario Hoff fortsetzte. 2022 begann sie dort ihr Konzertexamen-Studium.

2017 absolvierte sie eine Meisterklasse der renommierten Sopranistin Renée Fleming in Shanghai. Ein Jahr später studierte sie an der University of Michigan und trat beim Modern Opera Music Festival in der Uraufführung der Oper „The Rapture“ auf.

2022 debütierte sie als Erste Blumenmädchen in Wagners „Parsifal“ am Theater Hagen und wirkte in Aachens Mozart-Projekt „Ombra Felice“ mit. 2024 nahm sie an einer Meisterklasse der international gefeierten Sopranistin Barbara Bonney in Salzburg teil. Im Juli 2025 gestaltete sie mit dem World Doctors Orchestra eine Aufführung von Brahms' Requiem in der Kölner Philharmonie.

Zu ihren Auszeichnungen zählen der 1. Preis beim nationalen Gesangswettbewerb des HuangLong Music Festivals (2018), der 2. Preis beim 3. Internationalen Wiener Klassik-Gesangswettbewerb (2024) und der Roderburg Opernpreis 2025 für ihre Darstellung der Titelrolle in „Ariadne auf Naxos“.

In der Spielzeit 2025-26 wird sie in der Kinderoper Köln die Rolle der Agathe in „Freikugeln - Der Freischütz in fünf Dimensionen“ singen.
