Fest der Operette

Scene from the operetta Eine Frau von Format by Michael Krasznay-Krausz: At the center stands Dschilli Bey in a striking costume adorned with red and pink feathers, surrounded by dancers from Oper Köln. Framing her with large grey feather fans, they form a glamorous revue-style choreography. Dramatic stage lighting creates a sensual and extravagant atmosphere. In the upper right corner appears the Operettenfrosch award logo from BR-Klassik, which the production received in 2025.

Description

The revival of the long-lost Berlin operetta Eine Frau von Format by Michael Krasznay-Krausz from 1927 at the Staatenhaus was a resounding success. In the Cologne production by Christian von Götz, the ensemble brings the joie de vivre of the Roaring Twenties to the stage with brilliance and glamour – led by Annette Dasch as Ambassador Dschilly Bey, who not only turns the head of the Hungarian Count Tököli and playfully subverts role stereotypes, but also wins over the audience in the blink of an eye.

The team at BR-Klassik was just as enthusiastic as the audience and awarded the production one of its coveted prizes, the “Operetta Frog,” presented by BR to outstanding operetta productions. And in the end – flourish – the Oper Köln even received the exclusive “Frog” for Best Operetta of the 24/25 season. Let’s celebrate!

In a FESTIVAL OF OPERETTA, we revisit the most beautiful hits and liveliest dance rhythms from EINE FRAU VON FORMAT. We also look forward to other beloved highlights from the world of operetta of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The concert include the presentation of the Operetta Frog award by BR-Klassik. Featuring Annette Dasch, Richard Glöckner, members of the opera ensemble, and the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne.
