Loschky

Nadja Loschky studied music theatre directing at the “Hanns Eisler” Academy of Music in Berlin. Alongside her studies, she assisted Hans Neuenfels and worked as a freelance director at the Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück. It was there that she also created her first productions in children’s and youth theatre.

In 2006, her interpretation of Frieds monodrama Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank was invited to the Theatertreffen der Jugend in Berlin. Further engagements followed, including work at the Staatstheater Kassel.

After completing her practical diploma in 2009, Nadja Loschky staged Verdi’s La Traviata and Rossini’s The Barber of Seville at the Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück, as well as Gounod’s Faust at the Staatstheater Kassel.

In 2011, she made her debut with the world premiere of Christian Jost’s family opera Mikropolis at the Komische Oper Berlin.

In 2012, she directed Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Staatstheater Kassel, Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail at Theater Heidelberg, and the family opera Die Schatzinsel (Frank Schwemmer) at Opernhaus Zürich. In 2013, these were followed by Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra at Theater Aachen and Handel’s Alcina at Theater Luzern.

In 2014, she returned to Theater Heidelberg with Mozart’s Così fan tutte and made her first Puccini production with Madama Butterfly at Theater Bielefeld. For this production, she was awarded the Götz Friedrich Prize in 2015. In the same year, she again worked at Opernhaus Zürich, where she staged the world premiere of Christian Jost’s Rote Laterne. She subsequently directed Boieldieu’s rarely performed opera La dame blanche at the Oldenburg State Theatre and Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at Theater Heidelberg.

In 2016, she returned to Theater Luzern with Bellini’s Norma. For her production of Britten’s Death in Venice at Theater Bielefeld in the same year, she received a nomination for Best Direction in the annual critics’ survey by the magazine Opernwelt.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, she staged Verdi’s Macbeth at the Oldenburg State Theatre, followed by Zingarelli’s Giulietta e Romeo at the Schwetzingen Baroque Theatre.

With Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, she returned to Theater Bielefeld in spring 2017. In 2018, she made her directing debut at Oper Graz with Dukas’ Ariane et Barbe-Bleue. In the same season, she became resident director at Theater Bielefeld, where she staged Rihm’s Jakob Lenz and subsequently opened the 2018/19 season with Verdi’s La Traviata.

In spring 2019, she made her debut at Oper Köln with Dvořák’s fairy-tale opera Rusalka, and in June of the same year her interpretation of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld was presented at Theater Bielefeld.

Since the 2019/20 season, Nadja Loschky has served as Artistic Director of Music Theatre at Theater Bielefeld.

In 2020/21, Oper Graz opened its opera season with her production of Weinberg’s The Passenger, while Theater Bielefeld opened with her staging of Dunkel ist die Nacht, Rigoletto!, a music theatre work specially developed for Bielefeld based on Verdi, Shakespeare, and Hugo.

In the 2023/24 season, Nadja Loschky, together with Michael Heicks, led Bühnen und Orchester Bielefeld in a co-intendance for two seasons, before assuming sole artistic directorship starting in the 2025/26 season.

In addition to her work as a director, she also teaches on a project basis at the Hanns Eisler School of Music and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).

In the 2026/27 season, her production of Dvořák’s Rusalka will once again be presented at Oper Köln.
