and sensory Stimuli

Opera can evoke powerful emotions, and some experiences may be overwhelming or distressing. On this page, we provide additional information about content and sensory effects that we consider potentially sensitive. Certain themes, sounds, words, or images may trigger intense memories or emotional responses, particularly for people with traumatic experiences. We want you to be able to decide for yourself whether this information is relevant to you.

Sensitive content may include physical, psychological, or sexual violence, death, self-harm or suicide, serious illness, war, discrimination, nudity, addiction and substance abuse, bullying, or animal cruelty.

Sensory stimuli may include the use of special lighting (such as strobe effects or extremely bright light), complete darkness, loud noises (such as gunshots or other sudden sounds), stage smoke or haze, blood or similar theatrical effects, as well as physical contact and audience interaction.
