Lena Schmid
Vita
Lena Schmid, born in 1986, lives and works in Berlin and Zurich. She studied stage and costume design at the Toneelacademie Maastricht and the Akademia Sztuk Pieknych in Warsaw and worked as a stage design assistant at the Centraltheater Leipzig under the artistic direction of Sebastian Hartmann for two years. Since 2013, she has been working as a freelance stage and costume designer in the fields of theater, opera, and dance, including at the Berliner Ensemble, the Volksbühne, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Neuköllner Oper in Berlin. She also works at the Schauspiel Hannover, Theater Bremen, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Schauspielhaus Graz, Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich, Oper Köln, Oper Stuttgart, Aalto Theater Essen, Theater Lübeck, Theater Bielefeld, and Schauspiel Frankfurt. She regularly collaborates with directors and choreographers Stefanie Inhelder, Alexander Eisenach, Paul-Georg Dittrich, and Ulrike Schwab, among others. In 2020, she received a six-month studio scholarship from the Aargauer Kuratorium at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and in 2023 she received a work grant. Since 2023, she has also been teaching stage and costume design at the Toneelacademie in Maastricht.
