Dieter Richter

Dieter Richter studierte Bühnen- und Kostümbild an der Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst Mozarteum in Salzburg. Danach erhielt er sein erstes Engagement an der Oper Köln als Assistent bei Produktionen von Harry Kupfer und Willy Decker. Erste eigene Bühnenbilder entwarf er ab 1990 für die Opern- und Schauspielhäuser in Köln, Bonn und Innsbruck. Folgeengagements und Gastspiele führten ihn an zahlreiche deutsche und internationale Opern- und Schauspielhäuser, u. a. ans Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, an die Komische Oper und die Deutsche Oper Berlin, das Staatstheater Wiesbaden, das Sydney Opera House, die Oper Frankfurt, die Deutsche Oper am Rhein, das Staatstheater Nürnberg und die Opernhäuser von Bordeaux und Nizza. Häufig arbeitet er mit Dietrich W. Hilsdorf zusammen, u.a. bei „Idomeneo“, „Nathan der Weise“, „Jephta“ und „Il trovatore“, „Ariadne auf Naxos“, „Die Entführung aus dem Serail“, „Jenůfa“ und „Deutsche Miserere“ von Dessau/Brecht.
Dieter Richter erhielt bei Kritiker-Umfragen zahlreiche Nominierungen als bester Bühnenbildner, u. a. für „Rusalka“ an der Staatsoper Hannover und für „Die Harmonie der Welt“ am Landestheater Linz. 2018 wurde Dieter Richter in London bei den International Opera Awards für die Kategorie Best Designer nominiert.
